One of my favourite fall fashion staples is a plaid shirt. I could wear plaid shirts all year round, but honestly, they look the best in fall and winter. Plaid shirts, or flannel shirts as some people call them, are so versatile and can be worn in a million different ways. And don't forget that they're comfortable, cozy and usually inexpensive.
When I set out to write this article, I had no idea what I was in for. I mean, it's one piece: how many ways coud you possibly style a plaid shirt? Near countless ways, it would turn out. The flannel shirt has been everything from a preppy staple to a grunge accesory, but these days it's as ubiquitous as the denim jacket, elevating it to the ranks of wardrobe fundamental.
Wear it with anything- tucked into a sparkly pencil skirt or a pair of boyfriend trousers, knotted over a ball gown or unbuttoned over a well-worn tee, paired with jeans and a beanie, a flirty mini or leather skinnies and heels, tied around the waist of your favourite cutoffs or sweater dress- to instantly score that effortless cool-girl appeal. Kind of amazing what one shirt cand do. It just may be the American equivalent of the French red lip.
